Would your child like to take part in a performance at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago?
I am Kyle Gregory Price, a composer and performance artist. I am currently studying in the Graduate MFA Program at SAIC and am looking for youth to work with voice overs and possible stage presence. I am currently working on my final thesis performance that will be roughly 15 minutes long and performed during the first weekend of April 2025. The curators are currently in the process of deciding whether my particular performance will be on April 5th or 6th. Exact date will be announced ASAP.
This performance will be an immersive, multimedia experience with spoken word, video and audio portraying memories of my childhood. Some memories are bright while others are dark. Some are loud while others are quiet. It is a story of chaos, the acceptance of that chaos and the eventual organization of it into a new perspective realized through experimentation and creativity. In short, I would “classify” this story as PG-13 with a few strong words and mild adult content. With that being said, I will NOT ask your child to curse or speak of explicate matters.
I am looking for a male in their early teens and a male, 5-7 years old, to “represent’’ my youth. In this current stage of development I am interested in recording text that they will read. However, I might ask them to partake in the performance itself. This project is in the Research and Development phase so ideas are still being hashed out. I am aiming to record in the beginning of February. If parents are comfortable with this I am more than happy to do a home visit to record as I have portable equipment or we can do it at a proper studio. The total one-time voice-over recording session will be no more than 2 to 4 hours (with a couple of breaks within that.) I will work around the schedule of the child and their guardian(s) as my schedule is flexible. If I decide to ask our young actor(s) to join me on stage for the roughly 15 minute performance then I am asking that we have one 2 hour rehearsal, the final performance which will include 1 hour set-up time and the subsequent 15 minute presentation and finally, a video documentation session lasting about 2 hours during the following week after the performance. Compensation will be provided and determined through discussion about the project.
